Wedding Photography

Wedding PhotographyWhen American financier John S. Phipps asked British-born Margarita Grace to marry him, he promised her that one day she would have an English country house and gardens reminiscent of those of her native England. Today, that house and those gardens -– Old Westbury Gardens -– are listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and that love story frames the magnificent Charles II – style mansion and the 160 acres of formal gardens, tree-lined walks, lakes and grand allees that can be the setting for your wedding or engagement photographs to chronicle your own love story.

Red BallroomNever fear the unexpected shower on your wedding day! Westbury House is a perfect backdrop for spectacular indoor photographs. The Center Hall with its majestic grand staircase, the Red Ballroom with its grand piano, marble fireplace and French doors overlooking the South Lawn, and the West Porch, a glass enclosed salon with a gorgeous West Porchview of our legendary Beech Tree, are perfect complements to your photographic needs.

Your wedding day is as important to us as is it is to you, so we limit the number of weddings we allow on site. This will ensure that you are able to use the areas you choose exclusively! Be sure to make your reservations as early as possible and no Front Halllater than eight weeks prior to your wedding day.

About Improvements in the Walled Garden 2009

The Walled Garden was one of Mrs. Phipps favorite features and is a favorite site for photographs. Over the past several years Old Westbury Gardens has been restoring various features in the garden such as the beautiful wrought iron gates on the north, east and west walls. At the south end of the Walled Garden is the graceful pergola, composed of trellis-work and crowned with a large central dome. This year the Gardens will be restoring this structure as improvements to the garden continue. The dome will be removed this winter and reconstructed. It will be reinstalled in June and the entire pergola structure will be prepared for painting at this time and subsequently painted. This will necessitate removal of planting beds directly around the structure. Work is scheduled for completion in October.

Happily, the Walled Garden has numerous features that will not be affected by this activity such as the wrought iron gates, graceful stairs and the intimate summer houses at the north end - all wonderful backdrops for photographs. When planning for your special photos, the Old Westbury Gardens staff is prepared to help you identify many scenic backdrops throughout the Gardens for your significant events. We appreciate your understanding of these important efforts to maintain the unique beauty of Old Westbury Gardens.
