Old Westbury Gardens

Old Westbury Gardens is a magnificent example of the finest in period landscape design and architecture in America. Completed in 1906 by the English designer George A. Crawley, Old Westbury Gardens is the former home of John S. Phipps and his wife, Margarita Grace Phipps. The Charles II-style mansion is nestled amid 160 acres of formal gardens, landscaped grounds, woodlands, ponds and lakes.

Hours of Operation during the Season

Westbury House and Gardens are open every day EXCEPT TUESDAYS, from April 26^th to October 31^st from 10:00 am until 5:00 pm, with the last vehicle allowed onto the property at 4:00 pm.

Guided Tours

While guests are invited to tour the house and stroll the gardens at their leisure, Old Westbury Gardens Volunteers provide daily tours of Westbury House on the hour and the half-hour, and of the gardens at 11:00 am and 2:00 pm.  Guided tours last approximately 45 minutes.  House tours meet at the reception desk and garden tours meet at the West Porch Beech Tree.

Self-guided tours visitor brochures are available in English, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Mandarin and Spanish.

Accessibility

The first floor of Westbury House is accessible to people with disabilities. The unpaved gravel pathways through the gardens are not wheelchair accessible. Special parking is available for guests with state-issued handicap parking permits.

Guests should furnish their own wheelchairs and strollers. Strollers are not permitted in Westbury House.

Rules For Visitors

So that all may enjoy their visit to Old Westbury Gardens and to preserve its beauty and charm for future generations, please follow the Gardens’ rules to protect the plants, the collections, and our visitors.

• Food is permitted only in designated areas: at the Café in the Woods and the picnic area. Fires are not permitted.

• Do not feed the geese or any other wild bird or animal.

• Do not pick flowers, walk in flower beds or climb trees.

• Defacing trees and other plants can lead to their disease and death. Do not carve the trees.

• Use of radio, tape and CD players with earphones only.

• No sports activities (e.g., ball playing, Frisbee tossing, biking, rollerblading, jogging, kite flying).

• Pets are not permitted, except assistance dogs.

• Strollers, large bags and backpacks are not permitted in Westbury House.

Westbury House and Gardens are open every weekend in April from  10:00 am until 5:00 pm, with the last vehicle allowed onto the property at 4:00 pm.

Only the Gardens are open every day EXCEPT TUESDAYS, April 7^th to April 25^th, from  10:00 am until 5:00 pm, with the last vehicle allowed onto the property at 4:00 pm.
