 Summer Workshops 2008

Our workshops offer opportunities to learn from leading instructors and the Garden's outstanding staff using the gardens and house s a living classroom. Registration and payment must be made in advance. classes subject to cancellation due o insufficient registration or other reason. call 516.333.0048 x031 to register or for more information.

Tai Chi -- Every Wednesday beginning July 2; 10:30 am – 11:30 am; Tai chi a unique form of “moving meditation” calms the mind, relaxes the body and strengthens the spirit. Much of tai chi is practiced slowly and gently, ideal for people of all ages and health conditions. Its fluid movements are based on movements in nature, which makes Old Westbury Gardens for sessions. Sessions taught by Linda Cafiero are designed for all experience levels. Participants should wear comfortable clothing. Registration required.  $15 per session; $5 members (weather permitting).

Yoga Workshop -- Every Thursday beginning July 3; 11:00 am - 12:15 pm; Professional Kripalu Yoga instructor, Lorili Henry, will lead students through a dynamic, yet gentle, continuous flow of postures and conscious breathing.  Participants are encouraged to work at their own pace.  There is no better way to relax in the Gardens!  Registration and prepayment required.  $15 per session; $5 members.  Participants must bring a yoga mat, yoga strap, and towel.

Botanical Painting -- Beginners & Intermediate  -- July 7-11; 11:00 am - 1:00 pm; Botanical artist Rose Pellicano, a member of the American Society of Botanical Artists, will introduce beginning students the basic traditional techniques of painting flowers and plants in watercolor.  The intermediate students will focus on a separate project in value studies and composition. Registration and prepayment required.  $225 (for 5 sessions); $210 members.
