On Independence Day, Old Westbury Gardens will celebrate America’s first day of being free with a free day. Courtesy of North Fork Bank, there will be no admission fees to Old Westbury Gardens on July 4. Bring a picnic lunch (no fires) or enjoy hot dogs and burgers at our Café in the Woods. North Shore Pops will entertain with a traditional, small town, afternoon concert. Kids’ events include nature tours and craft making. At our Plant Shop, all plants will be 50% off. Enjoy a guided tour of Westbury House, our magnificent 100 year old mansion, furnished in priceless furnishings and art. Or simply relax on the grounds of our 200 acre estate covered with meadows, lakes, wooded paths, and indescribable gardens.

Tai Chi Every Wednesday 10:30 am – 11:30 am Tai chi a unique form of “moving meditation” calms the mind, relaxes the body and strengthens the spirit. Much of tai chi is practiced slowly and gently, ideal for people of all ages and health conditions. Its fluid movements are based on movements in nature, which makes Old Westbury Gardens for sessions. Sessions taught by Linda Cafiero are designed for all experience levels. Participants should wear comfortable clothing. Registration required.  $11 per session; $3 members (weather permitting).

Yoga Workshop Every Thursday, 11:00 am - 12:15 pm Why train in a stuffy gym when you can exercise alongside nature in the awe-inspiring gardens?  Professional Kripalu Yoga instructor, Lorili Henry, will lead students through a dynamic, yet gentle, continuous flow of postures and conscious breathing.  Students are encouraged to work at their own pace.  There is no better way to relax in the Gardens!  Registration and prepayment required.  $11 per session; $3 members (6 sessions in total, weather permitting).  Participants must bring a yoga mat, yoga strap, and towel.

Bring your friends and we’ll provide the soundtrack for an enjoyable evening under the stars.  Arrive early to picnic and stroll the gardens.  Lawn seating.  Admission: $10.00; $8.00 62 and older & members; children 12 and under free.  All concerts have rain dates to be determined.  No registration required.

Vince Giordano's Nighthawks -- The King of Swing returns, playing the Golden Era of jazz repertory, renowned on the New York scene for their comitment to preserving and authentically presenting 1920's jazz and popular music.

Teddy Bear Picnic 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm Bring your furry friends and an adult for an afternoon in the most ideal children’s area of the Gardens- the Cottage Garden.  Enjoy finger foods and games adjacent to the Thatched Cottage, playhouse of Peggy Phipps (daughter that lived in Westbury House).  Recommended for children ages 3–8.  Registration and prepayment required.  Member child $10.00; non member child $15.00; Accompanying adults are free.  Raindate: July 21.

Talk & Tour: Butterflies in the Garden 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm An interactive tour about Long Island butterflies and what plants attract them. Butterfly plants must be colorful & fragrant, but did you know that the shape of the plant is also important? Join docent Patty Sullivan as she takes you on a tour through the grounds to point out plants that both attract butterflies and feed their larvae. Rain or shine.

Talk & Tour: Lotus & Waterlilies 2:00 pm – 3:00 pm Explore the ancient symbolism and sacred storied associated with these beautiful plants.  Master Gardener & docent Barbara Levine will compare and contrast flora growing in the Walled Garden pool.

Beech Tree Concert Series 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm Artist-in-Residence Cellist Suzanne Mueller and Friends perform under the West Porch Beech Tree.  Bring a chair, blanket, or sit on the grass and enjoy a relaxing afternoon.  Free with admission.  In case of inclement weather, concerts will be held in the Red Ballroom.

Terry Winchell - A now world-renowned singer/songwriter, East End guitarist Terry Winchell teams with Suzanne in a program filled with everything from rollicking bluegrass to haunting ballads.
